Whether you are questioning, queer, trans, or an ally, there is a place for you here. You are warmly welcome.

At Broad View United, we affirm that every person is a beloved child of God, created in God’s image and love. Through partnerships and community gatherings, we create spaces where Two Spirit, LGBTQIA+, and gender-diverse people can belong fully, share their gifts, and shape the life of our church.

What is Affirming Ministry?

We live into our call as an Affirming Ministry of The United Church of Canada by:

Celebrating diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions as gifts of God.

Building spaces of radical hospitality, safety, and belonging for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, families, and allies.

Partnering with community organizations to extend care, advocacy, and support beyond our walls.

Learning from the wisdom, resilience, and creativity of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities as we journey together.

Our Programs & Partnerships

Trans, Non-Binary, and Two Spirit Family Dinner

Every 3rd Wednesday, from 5:45–7:30 pm, families gather at BVU Commons for a free monthly dinner, hosted in partnership with Saanich Neighbourhood Place, Gender Spectacular, and Trans Care BC. This is a monthly dinner gathering for families with 2S/Trans/Non-Binary members—biological, chosen, foster, blended, and beyond. Registration is required, but there is no cost to attend.

Young Adults Sunday Lunch

On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, young adults gather for lunch after the ConXion service (beginning at 12:15 pm) to share meals, conversation, and inclusive faith exploration in an open and affirming space. This gathering welcomes 2SLGBTQIA+ and allied young adults seeking connection, community, and spiritual exploration.

Affirming Monthly Conversation

On the fourth Thursday of each month at 5 pm, 2SLGBTQIA+ BVU members and friends gather for conversation and, when needed, planning, with pizza. This gathering does not require a commitment to regular attendance—just a desire for conversation, ideas, feedback, sharing, reflection, and movement. A monthly reminder email is sent with a few notes from the previous meeting. Please sign up if you are interested. Come as you are.

2SLGBTQIA+ Small Groups

Through its Small Group Ministry, BVU helps people build meaningful connections and supportive networks within the life of the church. Some groups gather around themes such as Reconciliation or Caring for Creation, while others focus on study, action, spiritual practice, or shared interests. BVU also offers a 2SLGBTQIA+ small group. Whatever their focus, all BVU small groups create opportunities for friendship, mutual care, and deeper community. Each group is supported by a Small Group Facilitator working alongside our Pastoral Care Minister. If you are interested in finding a safe and welcoming space for connection, community, and spiritual growth, please contact our Pastoral Care Minister.

Queer Spiritual Collective Retreat

Hosted by the Queer Spiritual Collective (Broad View United, Lutheran Church of the Cross, Unitarian Universalist Community of Victoria, and other leaders), participants gather for a safe, interfaith, and intergenerational exploration of the intersection of queerness and faith. This gathering offers opportunities to share calm, belonging, and connection with 2SLGBTQIA+ people and allies. Lunch is provided.

BVU Queer Film Festival

During Pride Week, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies gather to explore queer life and love through film and discussion. Concessions are provided. Planning begins in late April.

Victoria Pride Walk

Each year, BVU joins United Churches across Southern Vancouver Island in the Pride Parade to celebrate and stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ members of our community. Planning begins in late May.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)

Through commemorations in worship, the community gathers to hold space for grief, remembrance, and solidarity.

Reconstructing Christmas Retreat

Through restorative retreats, 2SLGBTQ+ and BIPOC members gather for healing, creativity, and faith.
